Zakynthos

The shipwreck cove, the island's signature image, is reachable only by boat and its sand has been closed or restricted since the rockfalls (worsened in 2024). The clifftop viewpoint stays open and is reached by car: dog on a short leash, respect the barriers, vertigo guaranteed.

At Cape Skinari, the limestone arches throw back an electric blue beneath the small boats. Trips leave from Agios Nikolaos and Skinari; many skippers accept a calm dog on a leash aboard, worth confirming before boarding.

The Venetian-style rebuilt seafront, Solomos Square and the long Strata Marina are walked on a leash. Climb to Bochali hill and the Venetian castle for sunset over the whole bay.

The heart of the national marine park, the loggerhead turtle nesting beaches (Laganas, Kalamaki, Gerakas, Dafni, Sekania) are strictly regulated: dogs kept well away, no beach access at night from May to October, marked nests never to be approached. Respect every sign, it is vital for the species.

In the south-west, the Keri sea caves and lighthouse offer cliffs, the Mizithres sea stacks and sunsets. The viewpoint and cape paths are walked on a leash; the caves are seen from the boats leaving the little harbour of Limni Keriou.

One of the finest nesting beaches in the marine park, at the tip of the Vasilikos peninsula. Protected area: closed at night from May to October, dogs banned on the sand, so stay on the paths and the overlooking viewpoints.
