Pet-Friendly Attractions in Zaragoza

Spain's largest baroque cathedral and Zaragoza's spiritual heart, with eleven coloured-tile domes and four corner towers rising over the Ebro. The basilica interior does not admit pet dogs, but the vast surrounding plaza, one of Europe's largest pedestrian squares, is fully dog-walkable and arguably the city's best photo backdrop. Combine with the adjacent Plaza de las Catedrales and a stroll across the Stone Bridge to Parque del Tío Jorge.

The 11th-century Hudid-era Islamic palace, later expanded by Christian kings, today seat of the Aragonese parliament and a UNESCO-listed Mudéjar monument. Leashed dogs are admitted in the outdoor moat and surrounding gardens, which run all the way around the fortified perimeter. Interior tours of the palace itself are not dog-friendly, but the exterior loop is one of the city's loveliest 30-minute walks, with mature poplar shade.

The 15th-century stone bridge linking the Casco Histórico to the Arrabal, with the iconic postcard view of El Pilar's domes reflected in the Ebro at sunset. The bridge is fully pedestrianised in its central span and connects directly into the redesigned Riberas del Ebro promenade, a 8 km landscaped riverside walk with shaded paths, sculpted gardens and several access ramps. One of the city's most rewarding evening walks with a dog.

A short walk west of El Pilar brings you to the surviving stretch of the Roman walls of Caesaraugusta, founded by Augustus in 14 BC. The walls are open-air and dog-walkable. Adjacent is the Mercado Central, a 1903 cast-iron market hall reopened after a 2020 restoration, leashed dogs are not admitted inside the market itself, but the surrounding plaza (Plaza de Lanuza / César Augusto) is fully accessible and a popular morning stop for locals walking dogs.

A 120-hectare riverside park created on the meander of the Ebro for the 2008 World's Fair, with cycle paths, water gardens, a ronda fluvial, and views back to the city skyline. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout; off-leash permitted in designated zones during seasonal hours. The park is the largest single green space within Zaragoza city limits and one of the favourite weekend dog-walking destinations for residents of the Actur and Ranillas districts.
