Dog-Friendly Parks in Valencia

The Jardín del Turia is one of the most remarkable urban parks in Europe — a 9-kilometre linear green corridor built in the dry bed of the River Turia after it was diverted following the catastrophic 1957 flood. Where water once ran, there are now cycling paths, shaded promenades, sports pitches, playgrounds, and the Gulliver Park (the famous giant climbing sculpture that children love). Dogs must be on leash throughout, but the park is dog-friendly in the fullest sense: other dog owners nod in greeting, cafés at the park's edge bring out water bowls, and the long, shaded corridors make it ideal for morning or evening walks even in the height of summer.

Located at the western end of the Turia garden, Parque de Cabecera is a large, naturalistic park with a lake, wetland areas, and extensive woodland paths. Unlike the Turia linear park, Cabecera has designated off-leash sections where dogs can run freely — a relatively rare privilege in Valencia's urban parks. The park borders the Bioparc Valencia (a cage-free zoo) and its wooded perimeter paths are some of the most pleasant dog walks in the city. The lake attracts ducks and waterfowl, so keep your dog on leash near the water's edge unless clearly in an off-leash zone.

The oldest public gardens in Valencia, the Jardines del Real — known locally as the Viveros — occupy the site of the former Royal Palace of Valencia, of which only the gardens remain. Wide, shaded avenues of centenary trees, a small zoo, fountains, and manicured formal gardens make this the most classically beautiful park in the city. Dogs are welcome on leash throughout, and the wide gravel avenues are perfect for a more sedate walk. The park is adjacent to the Turia garden and often combined with it for a longer route.

A large neighbourhood park in the north of Valencia that is less touristic and more genuinely local than the parks in the city centre. Parque de Benicalap has generous green spaces, shaded paths, and a well-equipped off-leash dog area that is popular with the surrounding residential community. It is the kind of park where you see the same dogs and owners every morning — a real neighbourhood institution. Less famous than the Turia or Cabecera, but in many ways the most authentically local dog park in the city.
