Calpe is a 24 000-resident Costa Blanca town in Alicante province defined by the 332 m Peñón de Ifach limestone monolith (Spain's smallest natural park, protected since 1987), with the medieval casco antiguo and Mudéjar Gothic Iglesia Antigua, the Las Salinas flamingo wetland in the middle of town, Roman Banys de la Reina archaeological pools, and the Bandera Azul Playa La Fossa-Levante (950 m of sand directly north of the Peñón). Top spots for pets include the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park base trail (dogs leashed on the access path, not in the upper tunnel/summit), the Las Salinas dog-friendly boardwalk loop with resident flamingos, and the Banys de la Reina Roman fish-farming pools at the south end of Playa Arenal-Bol, especially around the casco antiguo medieval old town climbing toward the Forat de Calp viewpoint, the Paseo Marítimo Princesa de Asturias along Playa La Fossa, and the Puerto Pesquero fishing harbour at the foot of the Peñón.
