Beaches in Peniche for Dogs

Baleal is a small island connected to the mainland by a causeway, 5 km north of Peniche, and one of Portugal's most celebrated surf beaches. The north end of the beach, away from the surf school concentration, is significantly more dog-friendly and less monitored for the seasonal ban. Outside June 15–September 15, the whole beach is open to dogs and the Atlantic swells make for extraordinary scenery.

A quieter beach south of Peniche, less visited than Baleal and with calmer conditions in the southern corner due to a small headland. Dogs are welcome here outside the summer ban period and in the non-designated sections year-round. The access road is unpaved for the last kilometre, which keeps the beach quieter. Excellent for autumn and spring visits.

The sheltered town beach on the north side of the peninsula, the most accessible from the centre and the best option for a quick morning swim with a dog outside the summer season. Walk directly from the fort wall path. Sand is coarser than Baleal but the protected bay means the water is calmer and safer for swimming.
