The 16th-century fortress at the tip of the Peniche peninsula is the town's defining landmark. It served as a Salazar-era political prison until 1974 and now houses a regional museum. Dogs are welcome in the exterior areas, gardens, and on the surrounding cliff path. The interior museum has restricted dog access. The views from the fortress ramparts over the Atlantic are exceptional.
๐ก The cliff walk around the fortress base takes 45 minutes and offers better views than the ramparts themselves
