Baleal is a small island connected to the mainland by a causeway, 5 km north of Peniche, and one of Portugal's most celebrated surf beaches. The north end of the beach, away from the surf school concentration, is significantly more dog-friendly and less monitored for the seasonal ban. Outside June 15–September 15, the whole beach is open to dogs and the Atlantic swells make for extraordinary scenery.
💡 Baleal has several surf schools, avoid bringing dogs during active surf lessons (morning and afternoon sessions in summer) as leads and surfboards are a bad combination
