Fuengirola keeps one of Andalusia's few official year-round dog beaches at Castillo Sohail, and in October the sea is still 22°C. The 7 km promenade, seven fenced dog parks and a free Cercanías train from Málaga Airport make it the easiest autumn base on the coast.

Once the summer ban lifts, Nerja's small coves below the Balcón de Europa become dog-friendly again, and the cliff paths east towards Maro stay warm at 24°C well into November. Fewer day-trippers than Málaga, more space for a dog to swim.

Tarifa's huge open Atlantic beaches at Los Lances and Punta Paloma are wide enough that dogs run off-lead out of season without bothering anyone. The Levante wind eases in autumn, and Africa sits on the horizon across the strait. Cooler at 19°C, ideal for active dogs.

Valencia gives you a warm 21°C city with a nine-kilometre linear park in a drained riverbed, the Turia gardens, running right through it. Dogs are welcome the length of it, the Malvarrosa beach reopens to them off-season, and paella terraces stay open all autumn.
