Eurostar carries assistance dogs only, not pet dogs. For a family dog the routes are Le Shuttle (Folkestone→Calais, 35 min, dog stays in the car) or the ferries. This is why "how far" tracks "how long you have off".
A 3-day bank holiday = within 2 hours of the tunnel (northern France, Belgium). A one-week half term = an overnight ferry to Brittany or the Basque Country. The six-week summer = worth the long drive to the Alps, Austria or Iberia.
The peak-summer Mediterranean is dangerous for dogs: pavements hit 50 °C and burn paws, and cars turn lethal in minutes. In July–August aim for lakes, altitude or the cooler Atlantic, and walk at dawn and dusk only.
