Parc du Thabor
Centre / Thabor-Saint-Hélier · Place Saint-Mélaine, 35000 Rennes
Rennes' beloved 10-hectare central park, laid out in the 19th century by Denis and Eugène Bühler (same designers as Parc Borély in Marseille), with a formal French garden, an English-style landscape garden, a rose garden of 2,000 varieties and an aviary. Leashed dogs are welcome on all main paths and lawns marked accessible. Mature plane trees provide deep shade in summer and the elevated terrace gives a panoramic view over the cathedral roofs.
💡 The rose garden peaks in mid-June, but for a quieter walk with a dog avoid the 15:00-17:00 weekend slot when Rennes families and tour groups converge on the central lawns.
