Dog-Friendly Parks & Green Spaces in Rennes

Rennes' beloved 10-hectare central park, laid out in the 19th century by Denis and Eugène Bühler (same designers as Parc Borély in Marseille), with a formal French garden, an English-style landscape garden, a rose garden of 2,000 varieties and an aviary. Leashed dogs are welcome on all main paths and lawns marked accessible. Mature plane trees provide deep shade in summer and the elevated terrace gives a panoramic view over the cathedral roofs.

A 13-hectare lake reserve on the west edge of Rennes, surrounded by a 4 km circular footpath through wood and meadow. The reserve is the closest natural water access from the city centre by bus (line C4) and a favourite weekend escape for dog owners. The main bathing area is fenced and closed to dogs in summer, but the wider perimeter trail and the wooded western shore are leash-dog-friendly year-round.

A 130-hectare protected woodland on the southern edge of Rennes Métropole, with a 12 km network of marked forest trails crossing oak, beech and chestnut groves. Leashed dogs are welcome on all marked trails and off-leash walking is tolerated in the wider sections away from picnic zones and the equestrian centre. The forest is the city's main weekend walking destination.
