Dog-Friendly Beaches from Rennes

The 3 km Plage du Sillon stretching north from intra-muros Saint-Malo is the closest large Atlantic beach to Rennes (1h by car, 50 min by TER train to Saint-Malo Gare). Out of peak summer (15 June–15 September), leashed dogs are allowed on the whole beach from sunrise to 09:00 and after 19:30. Outside this season, dogs are welcome year-round between the same time windows, with the morning low-tide sand stretching half a kilometre toward the horizon.

Dinard's iconic main beach, lined with Belle Époque villas and 700 colourful striped beach tents in summer, sits across the Rance estuary from Saint-Malo (15 min by Compagnie Corsaire ferry, which accepts leashed dogs free). Outside the peak summer ban, leashed dogs are tolerated on the western part of the beach from sunrise to 10:00 and after 19:00. Year-round dog access is available on the wild Plage du Prieuré just south.

A wild crescent of white sand between Cancale (the oyster capital of Brittany) and the dramatic Pointe du Grouin headland, much less crowded than Saint-Malo and dog-friendly year-round on the southern half of the beach. The neighbouring GR34 coastal path is one of the great dog walks in France, with 80 km of clifftop trail from here to Mont-Saint-Michel.
