Paphos

The historic harbour, watched over by its small medieval fort, edges a lively promenade of tavernas and fishing boats. The quays and seafront make a pleasant leashed walk, though the castle interior is not suited to dogs.

A UNESCO-listed site famed for the Roman mosaics of the Houses of Dionysos and Theseus. Dogs are not admitted inside the archaeological enclosure, so plan the nearby harbour promenade for your companion.

A vast Hellenistic and Roman rock-cut necropolis carved facing the sea, part of the UNESCO listing. Dogs are not allowed inside the fenced site, but the coastal path alongside it can be walked on the leash outside the hot hours.

A wild peninsula of unspoilt tracks and coves, where Lara Bay hosts the nesting of sea turtles. Keep dogs on the leash and well away from nesting zones in season (summer), and carry plenty of water as shade is scarce.

Aphrodite's Rock, where legend places the birth of the goddess, rises above a wave-washed pebble beach. The viewpoint and shore can be walked on the leash, but this is not a designated dog beach, so dog bathing is best avoided here.

A large golden-sand beach, very busy, north of Kato Paphos and popular with families. Dogs are banned here as on all supervised beaches, so fall back on the district's designated dog beaches (Acheleia, Pitili).
