London's story stretches from Roman Londinium to today's global capital of nearly 9 million residents, and its affection for dogs runs just as deep. The UK is a famously dog-loving nation with an estimated 13 million pet dogs, and London alone is home to more than a million. Royal parks like Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath have welcomed off-leash walks for over a century, and pubs across the city proudly display 'dogs welcome' signs. Since Brexit, EU visitors can no longer use the EU Pet Passport to enter Great Britain and must instead obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued within 10 days of travel. Dogs also require a tapeworm treatment 24-120 hours before arrival. Despite the paperwork, London remains one of Europe's most rewarding cities to explore with a four-legged companion.
The 350-acre royal park in central London allows dogs off-leash throughout most of its grounds, except in the Diana Memorial Fountain and flower gardens. It's a classic morning walk spot along the Serpentine lake.
A wild 320-hectare heath in north London beloved by dog owners, with woodlands, meadows and ponds. Dogs roam freely across most paths, and Parliament Hill offers one of the best skyline views in the city.
Pastel townhouses, independent cafรฉs and the famous Saturday antiques market make Notting Hill a dog-walker's delight. Many cafรฉs along Portobello Road keep water bowls outside and welcome leashed dogs on their terraces.
Dogs aren't allowed inside this 11th-century fortress, but the Tower Hill gardens and nearby Thames Path make a scenic exterior walk. Views of Tower Bridge are arguably better from the outside anyway.
A flat 5km towpath links Little Venice to Camden Lock through Regent's Park borders. Narrowboats, willow trees and plenty of dog-friendly pubs make it one of London's most charming walks.
London's oldest enclosed royal park climbs to the Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian. Dogs are welcome on-leash near the deer enclosure and off-leash elsewhere, with panoramic views over Canary Wharf.
