Edinburgh is one of Britain's most dog-welcoming cities. With off-leash hills, dog-friendly pubs on every street, and a culture that treats dogs as full members of the family. Top spots for pets include Arthur's Seat (off-leash), Holyrood Park, and the Water of Leith walkway, especially around Stockbridge, Leith, and the New Town.
โ ๏ธPet passport alert: The UK no longer accepts the EU pet passport post-Brexit. An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is required to enter with your pet.

Edinburgh is a city that breathes history. Built on volcanic rock crowned by its castle (11th century), it was the capital of the Kingdom of Scotland and the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment. Its medieval Old Town and 18th-century Georgian New Town are jointly inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But Edinburgh is also a deeply dog-friendly city: dogs are allowed in most pubs, on the Arthur's Seat hills, in public gardens and in the majority of cafรฉs. The British tradition of dogs in pubs is a daily reality here โ and Scotland is, alongside Germany, the most pet-welcoming country in Europe.
The dormant volcano at Edinburgh's heart (251 m) is an extraordinary playground for dogs. Trails are open and dogs can go off-leash in most areas. The view over the city from the summit is spectacular.
The river that crosses Edinburgh is lined with a 12 km footpath from the city centre to Leith. Dogs can go off-leash in most sections. A green, peaceful route away from tourist bustle.
The main street of the medieval Old Town is accessible to dogs. Most lateral closes (alleyways) are perfect for exploring with a pet. Edinburgh Castle does not admit animals inside.
The royal park surrounding Arthur's Seat (263 ha) is fully accessible to dogs. The lochans (small lakes), Salisbury Crags cliffs and wide meadows make it one of Europe's finest urban parks.
Stockbridge is Edinburgh's most charming and dog-friendly neighbourhood. Sunday market, welcoming pubs, butchers and delis that keep a treat for your dog. Dean Village below is an architectural gem by the water.
