Dog-Friendly Trails & Nature Walks around Hallstatt

The 1 km timber-and-paved promenade hugs the western shore of Lake Hallstatt from the south end of the village to the boat dock and the Marktplatz, with continuous lake views and benches. Leashed dogs are welcome along the entire route, and several gravel beach pockets between the boathouses let dogs paddle at the water's edge. This is the daily evening walk of the village's resident dogs and tourists alike.

A 3.5 km nearly level loop trail around Vorderer Gosausee with the most iconic mirror-reflection view of the Dachstein glacier in the Salzkammergut. Wide gravel path suitable for older dogs, plenty of water access points along the shore, and several shaded forest sections. The lake itself allows dog swimming outside the official bathing area at the southern end — one of the few Salzkammergut lakes that does.

A gentle 6 km valley walk starting from the south end of Hallstatt village, following the Waldbach stream through meadows, beech forest and waterfalls to the dramatic Waldbachstrub waterfall at the foot of the Dachstein wall. Almost level grade, plenty of shade, multiple stream crossings with cool paw-dipping spots, and minimal day-tripper traffic compared to the village. Ideal in a Hallstatt heatwave.
