Dog-Friendly Attractions in Dénia

Dominating the centre from a 60 m hill, the Castillo de Dénia is an 11th-century Moorish fortress refortified by the Spanish crown in the 16th and 17th centuries. Leashed dogs are welcome on the outer ramparts, the Baluard del Migdia bastion and the panoramic outdoor paths overlooking the port and the Mediterranean. Access via the Portal de la Vila gate in the casco antiguo. Indoor museum spaces (Palau del Governador) are not pet-accessible, but the outdoor circuit alone is the headline visit.

Two distinct old quarters sandwich the castle. Les Roques climbs the southern flank of the castle hill, a maze of whitewashed cottages, narrow stairways and flower-decked façades. Baix la Mar on the port side is the historic fishermen quarter, with its low blue-trimmed houses, the Iglesia de la Asunción and the Plaça del Raset. Both are entirely walkable on leash, with frequent outdoor tapas terraces, and link via the pedestrianised Marqués de Campo axis and the Mercado Municipal.

A 110-hectare strictly protected marine reserve covering the underwater zone between Cap de Sant Antoni (Dénia) and Cap Negre (Xàbia), with exceptional Posidonia meadows and seabed visibility that draws snorkelers and divers from across Spain. The land-side cliff trail above the reserve is leashed-dog accessible and the most spectacular short walk in the area. The lighthouse viewpoint at the cape itself is the end point of the standard loop.
