Delft is one of the most painlessly dog-friendly cities you can use as a base in South Holland: smaller and calmer than Rotterdam or The Hague, with dog beaches at Kijkduin and Scheveningen 25–45 minutes away by tram, and dogs free on all NS trains in a carrier (€3.30 Dagkaart Hond for larger dogs). A handful of local rules and habits will make the trip smoother. The Markt, Beestenmarkt and Oude Delft canal are leash-only zones; off-leash freedom starts in the marked losloopgebieden of Delftse Hout (lake meadow) and Kalverbos park.
