Dog Parks & Walks in Athens

Athens' largest central park, the Pedion tou Areos (Field of Ares) is a shaded, tree-lined park running from Patision Street to Alexandria Avenue. Dogs on-leash are welcome throughout. The long tree-lined alleys provide shade even in summer, making this one of the more comfortable parks to visit in the warmer months. Multiple entry points make it easy to access from central Athens or the National Archaeological Museum nearby. A popular morning walking spot for local dog owners.

The Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre is one of Athens' most impressive modern public spaces — a 170,000 sq m park and cultural campus on the Faliro Bay coast, designed by Renzo Piano. The outdoor park areas and coastal promenade are dog-friendly. The rooftop garden above the National Library and Opera House offers panoramic views of Athens and the Saronic Gulf. Dogs must be on-leash. The waterfront path connecting to the coast is excellent for evening walks in summer when the sea breeze cools the air.

Lycabettus Hill (Lykavittos) is the highest point in Athens at 277 metres, offering the best 360° panoramic views of the city and the Saronic Gulf. The walking trails up the hill are accessible with dogs on-leash. The climb takes about 30–45 minutes from Kolonaki. At the top, there is a café and restaurant with outdoor seating where dogs are generally tolerated. The wooded paths on the hill's east side are shaded and cooler than the city streets. Do not attempt the climb in summer midday heat.

The Flisvos Marina and adjacent Faliro coastal park provide a pleasant flat waterfront walk south of central Athens. The promenade along the marina is dog-friendly and popular with local dog walkers in the evening. Good sea breeze even in summer. Multiple café terraces along the route welcome dogs. Accessible by tram from Syntagma Square (line 3 or 4, direction Voula). The flat terrain makes it suitable for all dogs regardless of age or fitness level.
