Pet-Friendly Attractions in Athens

The Monastiraki flea market area and the adjacent Psirri neighbourhood are among Athens' most vibrant and dog-friendly areas. The pedestrianised streets, open-air market stalls, street food vendors, and café terraces are all accessible with dogs. The Sunday flea market at Plateia Avissinia is particularly good for a morning with your dog. The area connects seamlessly to the Thissio pedestrian zone and the ancient Agora walk below the Acropolis.

The pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street running through Thissio is one of Athens' most pleasant walks — car-free, lined with café terraces, and with direct views up to the Acropolis and Parthenon. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout. The street connects the Monastiraki metro station to Philopappou Hill and continues to Koukaki. Multiple café terraces along the route welcome dogs. This is the best outdoor walk in the heart of Athens for dog owners.

Directly opposite the Acropolis, Philopappou Hill (also called the Hill of the Muses or Filopappos Hill) is a peaceful wooded hillside accessible with dogs on-leash. The shaded pine forest paths are a welcome refuge from the city heat. The summit offers one of the best direct views of the Parthenon in Athens — and far fewer crowds than the Acropolis itself. A favourite with local dog walkers early in the morning.

Koukaki is the up-and-coming neighbourhood immediately south of the Acropolis, a favourite of Athenians for its authentic tavernas, independent coffee shops, and relaxed street life. Less touristy than Monastiraki and Plaka, it's one of the most comfortable areas to explore with a dog. Most café terraces accept dogs without question.
