Dog-Friendly Beaches near Athens

Saronida is one of the few beaches near Athens with a designated year-round dog section. Located on the Saronic Gulf coast, the dog-friendly section is clearly marked. Dogs can go off-leash in the designated area and swim freely. The water is clean and calm. There are nearby café-bars, some of which welcome dogs on their terraces. Car is the most practical way to reach Saronida — no direct public transport from central Athens.

Glyfada is one of the most accessible beach areas from central Athens, reachable by tram in about 40 minutes. During the main beach season (June–September), dogs are restricted to specific areas and non-bathing hours. From October to May, dogs are freely permitted on the beach. The Glyfada seafront promenade is dog-friendly year-round and makes for an excellent seaside walk regardless of season.

Lake Vouliagmeni is a unique brackish thermal lake fed by underground springs, known for its therapeutic properties. The lakeside area is more relaxed than organised beaches, and dogs are generally permitted on the outer areas of the lake grounds. The water is warm year-round (22–29°C). A tranquil alternative to the busy coast, especially in shoulder seasons. Check current entry rules on arrival — small entry fee applies.
