Hondvriendelijke restaurants in Zermatt

A long-running Walliser lamb specialty restaurant inside the family-run Hotel Julen, three minutes from Kirchplatz. The Julen family raises its own Walliser Blacknose sheep, so the lamb dishes are unmatched in the village. The cosy wooden-beamed dining room accepts leashed dogs at the staff's discretion in cooler months, and the courtyard terrace welcomes them year-round.

Named after Edward Whymper, the first ascender of the Matterhorn in 1865, this iconic central restaurant on Bahnhofstrasse serves one of the best fondues and raclettes in Zermatt. The small wooden interior is cosy but tight; the front terrace overlooking Bahnhofstrasse welcomes leashed dogs and is the prime people-watching spot in the village. Reserve ahead in winter.

A legendary mountain restaurant in the larch-shingled hamlet of Findeln at 2,051 m, reached by the dog-friendly Sunnegga funicular (€5 dog ticket) and a 15-min downhill walk. The view of the Matterhorn from the terrace is among the most photographed in the Alps. Leashed dogs are welcomed on the terrace year-round, and the funicular ride up is itself a memorable experience.
