Grindelwald

The mythical Eiger north face, 1,800 metres of vertical limestone, towers directly above the village. The trails at the base of the wall, such as the Eiger Trail, can be walked on lead with overwhelming views of the face.

The First gondola climbs to 2,166 metres, the gateway to the region's finest balcony hikes. Dogs ride along for a fee, and the First Cliff Walk platform can be done on four paws too.

From First, an easy one-hour walk leads to this mountain lake mirroring the Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn. It is Grindelwald's classic hike, perfectly doable with a dog on lead, with fresh water waiting at the top.

The gorge of the lower glacier is explored on walkways bolted to the rock, above the milky waters of the Lütschine. Leashed dogs can join the visit, with guaranteed coolness on hot days.

The gondola links Grindelwald to this panoramic ridge facing the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau trilogy. The almost flat balcony path to Kleine Scheidegg is one of Switzerland's most spectacular walks for a dog and owner duo.

This small old-style cable car climbs to 1,391 metres, the starting point of trails towards the former glacier viewpoints. Less busy than First, it is the quiet option for walking with a dog above the village.
