Arriving in Woolacombe
Woolacombe sits on the north-west Devon coast facing the Atlantic and has no railway station of its own. By rail you take the scenic Tarka Line from Exeter St Davids to Barnstaple, where dogs travel free, then the Stagecoach 303 bus down to Woolacombe. The nearest airport is Exeter (EXT), roughly an hour and a quarter away by road. Drivers should note that beachfront parking is very limited on summer days, so arriving early or parking in the larger car parks above the village is far calmer with a dog.
Around Woolacombe and Mortehoe
Once you are there the village is compact and walkable, with the three miles of Woolacombe Sands stretching south below it and the coast path climbing away at both ends. The Stagecoach 31 bus links Woolacombe with the hilltop village of Mortehoe and on to Ilfracombe, handy for reaching the Morte Point walks without moving the car. In July and August the seafront and lanes get very busy, so early mornings and evenings are the calmest times to walk a dog.
