Tenby: geschiedenis en karakter

Tenby, or Dinbych-y-pysgod ("the little fort of the fish") in Welsh, is a medieval walled harbour town on the south Pembrokeshire coast. Its 13th-century walls, the Five Arches gateway and a pastel harbour of Georgian houses make it one of the best-preserved walled towns in Wales, once prosperous through fishing and then, in Victorian times, as a seaside resort reached by the railway. The town wraps around three beaches, North Beach, Castle Beach and the long South Beach, looking out to the monastic Caldey Island. For a dog, Tenby is an easy base: dogs travel free on the train on the West Wales Line, free on the Caldey Island boats, and are welcome in the harbour pubs and on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path year-round. The one thing to plan around is the seasonal beach dog rules set by Pembrokeshire County Council from 1 May to 30 September. And since Brexit, Great Britain requires a GB Animal Health Certificate instead of the EU pet passport.
