Woolacombe

A magnificent three-mile Blue Flag beach backed by dunes. Zoned: the north end is closed to dogs 1 April to 30 September, but everything south of Mill Rock stays open to dogs all year.

The sheltered southern end of the same beach, under Baggy Point. Its main zone stays open to dogs all year, the reliable summer choice when Woolacombe's north end is closed.

A tiny shell cove between the rocks, famous for its summer sunset curry kiosk. Dogs allowed, on a lead while the seasonal cafe is in place (roughly March to September).

A rugged National Trust headland beyond Mortehoe, a roughly four-mile loop with grey seals and Lundy Island views. Keep dogs on a lead near cliffs and livestock.

A grassy National Trust headland at the south end of the bay above Croyde, with an easy out-and-back path and huge views. Gentler than Morte Point; keep dogs on a lead near the cliffs.

A pretty hilltop coastal village above Woolacombe, with a medieval church, two dog-friendly pubs and the National Trust car park, the gateway to the Morte Point walks.
