Vitoria-Gasteiz

13th-14th century Gothic cathedral, designed as a fortress-church integrated into the city defences, famous for the Open for Works restoration programme visitable on paid guided tour (advance booking). Pets are not allowed inside, but the Plaza Burullería and the rampart path around the apse are dog-friendly.

Civic heart of Vitoria-Gasteiz at the foot of the Casco Medieval, dominated by the Iglesia de San Miguel and the 1917 monument to the Battle of Vitoria. Pedestrian plaza open to leashed dogs 24h, lined with dog-friendly terraces.

One of Europe's largest urban wetlands, 3 km east of the centre, with deer herds, European mink and spoonbills viewable from the boardwalks. Leashed dogs on boardwalks (wildlife protection), signposted off-leash zone in the western half of the park.

A 160-hectare protected oak and pine forest on the southern flank of the city, listed as a full off-leash zone for non-dangerous breeds. The largest off-leash forest in the Anillo Verde and the shadiest option in summer heat.

The almond-shaped medieval old town climbs the hilltop in concentric ovals of cobbled streets (Herrería, Cuchillería, Zapatería, Correría), fully pedestrianised and open to leashed dogs. Murals, churches, pintxo bars throughout the loop.
