Valldemossa

The former charterhouse holds the cells of Chopin and George Sand, his piano and a museum on monastic life. The monastery interior and its museum are off-limits to dogs, but the whole village around it can be walked on a leash.

The cobbled lanes, bright with geraniums, wind between stone houses and ceramic tiles honouring Saint Catherine Thomàs, the village's own saint. They are walked entirely on a leash, best early in the morning to avoid the day-trip crowds.

On the coast road, Archduke Ludwig Salvator's estates offer gardens, a marble viewpoint and sweeping views over the Foradada rock. The grounds and lookouts are visited on a leash, very exposed to sun and wind.

A narrow, winding road drops to a small pebble cove hemmed in below the cliffs, with a few fish restaurants. The descent and the cove are done on a leash; parking is scarce, so arrive early.

The long dry-stone route crosses the Tramuntana through Valldemossa, among low walls, olive groves and restored charcoal pits. Hike on a leash, carry water and check summer wildfire restrictions.

The square in front of the charterhouse lines up cafés and terraces where you taste the coca de patata with a hot chocolate or an almond drink. The terraces welcome leashed dogs in the shade of the plane trees.
