Sant Antoni de Portmany, on the west coast of Ibiza in the Balearics, is the island's great sunset resort. Grown from a modest fishing village around its fourteenth-century fortified church, the town expanded with tourism to become a hub of nightlife and electronic music. Its deep bay, the largest on the island, ends at the famous Sunset Strip where bars and terraces watch the sun sink into the sea each evening. Beyond the summer bustle, Sant Antoni shows another face: the long Passeig de ses Fonts with its dancing fountains, the translucent coves of Cala Bassa and Cala Conta to the west, and the peaceful inland valley of Santa Agnès, celebrated for its winter almond blossom. You walk it on a leash along the seafront, between marina, promenade and coastal paths, an easy base for exploring the wilder west of the island.
The long bay and its promenade gather the sunset bars facing the open sea. You walk it on a leash along the seafront, but the town beach is regulated in summer and busy evenings can be noisy for a dog.
This viewpoint at the end of the promenade is the classic sunset spot, lined with terraces and rocks. An open-air space accessible on a leash, very crowded at dusk, so come early with a dog that dislikes crowds.
This large white egg-shaped sculpture at the port entrance recalls the legend linking Christopher Columbus to Ibiza. An open-air monument visible at any hour, ideal for a quick photo with the dog on a leash.
This landscaped seafront promenade lines up lawns, palm trees and illuminated fountains that dance in the evening. A pedestrian space perfect for a cool leashed stroll, with welcome pockets of shade during the hot hours.
These white-sand, turquoise-water coves west of town rank among the finest on Ibiza. Dogs are banned from these patrolled beaches during the bathing season, so look instead for a small unmanaged rocky cove.
This inland farming valley turns pink and white with almond blossom around late January and February. Rural lanes and open trails to walk on a leash, far from the coastal bustle, ideal off-season.
