Berlin's main central park (210 ha) is the favourite playground of Berliners and their dogs. Many areas are off-leash. The east-west axis traverses the entire park. On weekday mornings it belongs almost entirely to the dogs.

The former Tempelhof airport runway has become Europe's most singular urban park. 355 hectares of open grassland, dogs can run freely along the runways. An absolutely unique spot, hugely popular with Berliners.

The Grunewald forest (3,000 ha) on Berlin's western edge is Europe's largest urban natural park. Forest trails extend as far as the eye can see, dogs are free in most areas. Lake Schlachtensee is a popular dog swimming spot in summer.

Berlin's most dog-friendly neighbourhood. Cafés with dog water bowls, pet-welcoming shops and the Mauerpark on Sundays, a huge flea market where dogs roam freely between stalls. Kollwitzplatz terraces are ideal for an evening drink.

The island's museums (Pergamon, Bode, Neues Museum) do not accept animals inside. But the Spree riverbanks around the island are beautiful and entirely dog-friendly, an unmissable walk.
