UNESCO-listed since 1997. The central square is fully open to leashed dogs; the Romanesque cathedral interior (1099–1184) is not (except assistance dogs).

The city's main park (13 ha), designed for the Este dukes in the 17th century behind the Palazzo Ducale. Plane trees, ponds, fenced off-leash dog area in the north-west corner.

Historic covered market from 1931, Art Deco, wrought iron, bronze central fountain. Leashed dogs welcome in the outer aisles; for the indoor food stalls, it varies by vendor.

Ferrari museum built around the house where Enzo Ferrari was born (1898). Yellow-roofed pavilion by Jan Kaplický (2012). Dogs not allowed inside; outdoor garden accessible.
