Florence's large linear park (160 ha) along the Arno is the favourite playground of Florentines and their dogs. Off-leash areas in several sections, cycle paths and tennis courts. The Tuesday market here is lively.

The neighbourhood on the other side of the Arno (Oltrarno) is Florence's most authentic and dog-friendly. Piazza Santo Spirito is a lively square with terraces and wine bars where dogs are welcome. San Frediano is the favourite neighbourhood of artisans and dogs alike.

The Arno quaysides through Florence are the quintessential evening walk. Golden light on the Ponte Vecchio, lively terraces and dogs on leads everywhere. Florence's passeggiata happens here every evening.

The Uffizi and Accademia (Michelangelo's David) do not admit animals. Use this time to leave your dog at the hotel or with a pet-sitting service, queues are long and visits are lengthy.
