Dog-Friendly Sights in Warnemünde

The white 1898 lighthouse is Warnemünde's icon, standing where the promenade meets the beach beside the Teepott. You cannot take a dog up the climbable tower, but the base, the surrounding plaza and the sweeping beach-and-harbour views around it are a highlight of any leashed walk.

The striking shell-roofed Teepott beside the lighthouse is one of the German coast's best-known pieces of modern architecture, its swooping concrete roof now housing restaurants and shops. The dog cannot come inside the venues, but the building and its seafront plaza are a landmark stop on the promenade walk.

The Alter Strom is the heart of Warnemünde, the old harbour channel where fishing cutters moor along the quay in front of a row of gabled houses, cafés and Fischbrötchen kiosks. Strolling it on the lead with the boats, the gulls and the sea air is the essential Warnemünde experience, and leads straight to the lighthouse and pier.
