Usedom is Germany's sunniest Baltic island, where the three imperial Kaiserbäder set aside dog beaches and a villa-lined promenade links Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin for easy leashed walks by the sea. Top spots for pets include the Kaiserbäder dog beaches, the long seafront promenade past Germany's oldest and longest piers, and the shaded Küstenwald coastal forest, especially around the three Kaiserbäder of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, the quieter Achterwasser lagoon villages, and the Streckelsberg cliff dune at Koserow.

Usedom rose to fame in the 19th century as the playground of the German imperial court: Berlin high society built the white villas of the Bäderarchitektur along the seafront at Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, the three Kaiserbäder, and Heringsdorf still counts among Germany's grandest spa resorts. Ahlbeck's pier of 1898 is the oldest surviving in the country, and Heringsdorf's, at 508 metres, the longest. The island's northern tip tells a darker story at Peenemünde, where the V-weapons were developed in the Second World War, now a sobering museum. Shared with Poland on its eastern edge, Usedom is also the sunniest island in Germany, a beach resort long before mass tourism. For dogs, that heritage translates into open-air pleasures: long leashed promenade walks past the villas, three marked dog beaches and easy car-free days on the little UBB railway.
Germany's oldest surviving pier, built in 1898, with its green-towered pavilion out over the Baltic. The open deck is a free leashed walk, only the pavilion restaurant is a separate call.
At 508 metres the longest pier in Germany, a broad deck of shops reaching into the Baltic. The open walkway is a fine leashed stroll with sea on both sides.
The tree-lined promenade linking Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin past the white Bäderarchitektur villas, one of the longest on the German coast. Flat and shaded, it is the island's great leashed walk.
A 58-metre wooded cliff dune above the Baltic at Koserow, the highest point on the coast, with forest paths and clifftop views. A nature reserve, so dogs stay on the lead.
The coastal pine forest behind Bansin and Heringsdorf and the sheltered Achterwasser lagoon give flat, shaded paths, perfect for hot or windy days. Dogs on the lead to protect dunes and birdlife.
At the island's northern tip, the museum on the former Second World War V-weapons test site, a sobering place of remembrance. Dogs are not admitted indoors, but the outdoor grounds can be walked on the lead.
