Pet-Friendly Attractions in Venice

The Rialto Bridge is a public thoroughfare — dogs on-leash are permitted on the bridge and through the surrounding market area. The Rialto fish market (Mercato del Pesce) and the produce market (Erberia) are among the best morning destinations in Venice with a dog, and the surrounding bacari circuit is Venice's best. Best experienced before 10:00 when the market stalls are active and tourist crowds are lighter.

Murano, the glassblowing island a short vaporetto ride from Venice, is significantly less crowded than the main island and more pleasant for a dog walk. The fondamenta (canal-side paths) of Murano are excellent for a relaxed stroll. Dogs are permitted in the outdoor sections of the glass factories (many have open courtyards) and on the island's campi. The glassblowing demonstration halls may not allow dogs indoors.

Burano, the colourful lacemaking island 40 minutes from Venice by vaporetto, is one of the most photogenic places in Italy and is thoroughly enjoyable with a dog. The island is small, the calli are narrow, and the painted houses are extraordinary. Dogs on-leash are welcomed throughout the island's public spaces. Several cafés and restaurants have outdoor tables where dogs are accepted. Far less crowded than Venice in the early morning.
