Pet-Friendly Attractions in Thessaloniki

The White Tower is the symbol of Thessaloniki — a 16th-century Ottoman circular tower on the waterfront that is the city's most photographed landmark. Dogs are welcome in the surrounding public gardens and waterfront esplanade. The interior museum (7 floors, €8 entry) does not permit dogs, but the exterior and the promenade around it are perfect for a walk with your dog with the tower as backdrop.

The Arch of Galerius (Kamara) and the adjacent Rotunda are two remarkable Roman monuments at the heart of Thessaloniki, built around 300 AD. The surrounding piazza is pedestrianised and completely open to dogs on a leash. The Kamara area is one of the most lively outdoor spaces in Thessaloniki, especially in the evenings when locals gather around the arch. A completely free, open-air walk through 1,700 years of history.

Thessaloniki's 4th-century Byzantine city walls are among the best-preserved in Europe, stretching for several kilometres along the hill of Ano Poli. The walk along the walls from the Eptapyrgio fortress (Heptapyrgion) southward offers panoramic views over the city to the Thermaic Gulf and, on clear days, as far as Mount Olympus. Dogs on a leash are welcome throughout. This is Thessaloniki's finest and most underrated walking route.
