One of the largest surviving heathlands on Sylt, stretching between Kampen and Braderup on the island's eastern edge above the Wadden Sea. Wooden boardwalks and sandy paths lead through heather, juniper and dune grass that glow purple in August and September. It is a peaceful, wind-open walk with long views across the mudflats, and a favourite morning circuit for island dog owners. As a protected nature reserve it has a strict year-round leash requirement to protect ground-nesting birds and the fragile heath.
๐ก Come in the last week of August or early September for the peak heather bloom. Stick to the boardwalks, stepping off the marked paths into the heath is not permitted.
