Pet-Friendly Attractions in Split

Diocletian's Palace is one of the best-preserved Roman palaces in the world and forms the heart of Split's Old Town. Dogs on-leash are welcome on the exterior streets, the perimeter walls, and the open peristyle square. The narrow internal alleys of the Palace complex are accessible with dogs but get extremely crowded in peak summer. The Golden Gate, Silver Gate, and the Palace walls walk provide excellent outdoor exploration with your dog. Visit early morning (before 09:00) for the most pleasant experience.

The Riva is Split's iconic seafront promenade running along the south face of Diocletian's Palace, lined with palm trees, café terraces, and views across to the islands of Čiovo and Šolta. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the Riva. The café terraces accept dogs. The Riva is the social heart of Split and one of the finest promenades on the Adriatic. In the morning, it's calm and local; by afternoon it's one of Europe's great people-watching spots.

Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage island town 30 km west of Split, connected by a bridge to the mainland. The entire Old Town is on a tiny island and is almost entirely pedestrianised. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the outdoor streets and waterfront promenade. Multiple café terraces accept dogs. The Cathedral of St Lawrence and other indoor sites do not permit dogs. Accessible by Bus 12 from Split (45 min) or by taxi.
