Best Dog Parks in Sofia

Sofia's oldest and most loved park, established in 1884 and stretching across about 90 hectares to the south-east of the centre. Wide tree-lined avenues, the Ariana Lake (pedalos in summer), three stadiums, and quiet rose gardens — locals walk dogs throughout. A leash is the technical default, but off-leash use is widely tolerated on the inner woodland tracks.

A 70-hectare park south of the centre, famous as the city's most permissive off-leash dog space. Long winding paths, open lawns, two fenced enclosures dedicated to dogs (around Emil Berzinski and Petko Y. Todorov), and a route up to the Vitosha foothills. Trams 4 and 6 stop on the western edge.

Bulgaria's first nature park, founded in 1934, covers the entire Vitosha massif rising directly from the city. The Boyana entry (5 km south of the centre, accessible by bus 64) gives access to the forested lower slopes, the famous Boyana Waterfall trail, and an extensive network of hiking paths. Dogs on leash are welcome on all marked routes; off-leash is tolerated on the upper alpine sections.
