Getting Around Scheveningen with a Dog

HTM runs The Hague's trams and buses, and several lines reach the seafront: tram 1 and 9 serve Scheveningen and tram 11 runs to the harbour. Dogs travel free on HTM vehicles as long as they are leashed and kept in the aisle rather than on a seat. No muzzle is required.

National railway NS links The Hague to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Schiphol airport and beyond, arriving at Den Haag Centraal or Den Haag HS, from where a tram takes you to the coast. A small dog that fits in a bag or on your lap travels free; a larger dog needs a Dagkaart Hond (dog day-ticket), which costs around 3.70 euros in 2026 and is valid all day. You still need your own valid ticket alongside it.

Driving in is easy and the seafront has large car parks, including the Zwarte Pad lot at the northern end and garages near the Kurhaus and the Pier. Parking at the Zwarte Pad is handy for the quieter northern beach where dogs are allowed year-round. Keep in mind that leaving a dog in a parked car in warm weather is dangerous and can be fatal.
