Dog-Friendly Beaches in Scheveningen

The northern end of Scheveningen beach, reached from the large Zwarte Pad car park, is the closest year-round dog beach to the resort centre. From roughly Noorderstrand 34 towards Katwijk, dogs are allowed all year, and outside the summer peak they can run off the lead on the open sand. It is a broad, breezy North Sea beach with room to throw a ball and splash in the surf.

South of the Scheveningen harbour the Zuiderstrand runs down towards Kijkduin, and the designated dog-beach sections at strandslag 9 and 10 let dogs on the sand all day even in the summer season. Away from the busy central strand, it is a calmer, wilder stretch backed by dunes. On the rest of the Zuiderstrand in summer dogs are welcome only in the evening and night, from 21:00 to 07:00.

At the Kijkduin end of the coast, the Zuiderstrand from strandopgang 2 southwards to the Westland border at Monster is the most dog-welcoming beach in The Hague, where dogs may run off the lead all year with no seasonal restriction. Backed by the Westduinpark dunes, it is quieter than central Scheveningen and pairs a long sandy run with a dune walk. It is the go-to choice in high summer when the resort beaches close to dogs.
