Saranda's beaches follow one crucial rule for dog owners: in summer they are packed with paid loungers, umbrellas, music and water sports, and dogs are generally not welcome. From mid-September to early May, however, the same beaches empty out, entry is free, and dogs can roam and swim leash-free. A dramatic cove framed by imposing cliffs leading down to crystal-clear Ionian water, far less developed than the city beaches. Its enclosed shape makes it one of the better spots for a dog to swim, run and chase a ball when the crowds are gone.
