Salzburg's public transport network (Salzburg AG buses and trolleybuses, plus รBB rail) is compact and dog-friendly. The Altstadt is largely pedestrianised, so most visitors explore the city centre on foot. For trips to outlying areas, the Salzkammergut lakes, the Gaisberg, the Flachgau, the regional bus network and รBB trains are the main options. The Salzburg Card (24h/48h/72h) covers unlimited public transport and many museum entries, and includes dog transport.

The Festungsbahn (funicular to Hohensalzburg Fortress) does not officially list a dog policy. In practice, dogs on leads are accepted in the cabin, confirm with staff at the lower station before purchasing tickets. The funicular is the easiest way to reach the fortress with a dog, though the steep cobbled path on foot is also manageable.
