Mönchsberg
Above Altstadt
The Mönchsberg is the forested cliff that forms the western wall of Salzburg's Altstadt, rising 50 metres above the rooftops. A network of woodland paths runs along the top, connecting the Museum der Moderne (contemporary art) with the Richterhöhe viewpoint and the Augustiner brewery below. The lift from the Gstättengasse (elevator, €3 one way) or the steep stairs from Toscanini Hof make it easily accessible. Dogs are welcome on all paths.
Off-leash zone: No designated off-leash zones, but the forest paths are lightly regulated and dogs may walk loose in the wooded sections away from the Museum der Moderne and main viewpoints
💡 Walk up via the Toscanini Hof stairs and take the lift down — saves your knees and gives a different perspective each way
