Dog-Friendly Parks in Rouen

One of the finest botanical gardens in northern France, the Jardin des Plantes de Rouen covers over 8 hectares with themed collections including a rose garden, tropical greenhouses, and formal French parterres. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the outdoor sections, making it a pleasant half-day destination. The wide gravel allées are easy on paws and the garden's elevation offers views back toward the cathedral spires.

This vast municipal forest on the heights above the Seine's right bank offers some of the best dog walking in the greater Rouen area. Dozens of marked trails wind through old-growth beech and oak woodland, with elevation changes that make for genuine exercise. Dogs are allowed off lead in the forest zones away from playgrounds and picnic areas. From the heights you get panoramic views over the Seine valley and the city rooftops.

The north bank of the Seine through central Rouen has been transformed into a long pedestrian riverside promenade stretching from the Pont Guillaume-le-Conquérant to the Pont Corneille. This flat, traffic-free zone is ideal for morning and evening dog walks, with benches, water points in summer, and views of the historic city skyline. The surface is smooth tarmac and flat compacted stone - excellent for older dogs or those with joint problems.

The Parc de Madrillet is a large modern urban park south of the Seine with extensive lawns, a lake, fitness trail, and open meadows. It serves as the main off-lead exercise ground for dog owners from the southern agglomeration and is significantly less crowded than central Rouen parks. The perimeter path around the lake is about 2 km and suitable for jogging with a dog. The park is easily reached by TEOR rapid bus from Rouen city centre.
