Dog-Friendly Beaches near Rome

Ostia is Rome's closest seaside destination, accessible in 30 minutes on the Roma–Lido regional line. The Ostia Levante area (east end of the beach) has a designated dog-friendly beach section where dogs can access the water freely. Outside the June–September bathing season, dogs are permitted on most of Ostia beach. The area has cafes and facilities, and dogs are common year-round.

Fregene is a slightly more upscale beach resort north of Ostia, popular with Romans on summer weekends. The free public beach (spiaggia libera) sections allow dogs more easily than the private lidos, particularly in the northern areas and outside the summer peak. Several beach bars in Fregene are informal enough to welcome dogs on their terraces.

Anzio, south of Rome along the coast, is a genuine Italian beach town less overrun than Ostia. The northern public beach areas allow dogs freely outside the summer season and have a designated dog-beach area in operation during summer. The seafront promenade is also pleasant for dog walks year-round.
