Porto is one of the more practical cities in Southern Europe for travelling with a dog, compact enough to navigate on foot, with genuine outdoor cafรฉ culture, good green space, and accessible beaches. The cobblestone streets of the historic centre (Ribeira, Sรฃo Nicolau, Miragaia) are hard on older dogs' paw pads over long distances; plan no more than 4โ5 km of cobblestone per day for senior or small dogs. The Atlantic weather is the honest caveat: spring and autumn are ideal, summer is manageable, and NovemberโFebruary brings sustained Atlantic rain that changes the experience significantly.
