Dog-Friendly Beaches Near Porto

The closest Atlantic beach to Porto city centre — reachable by CP Line A train in under 20 minutes from São Bento station, free for dogs. Non-concessioned, meaning dogs are allowed year-round without seasonal restrictions. The beach is wide and sandy. During summer it gets busy with bathers; outside June–September it is uncrowded and ideal for long runs. Dogs must remain on a leash on the access paths and promenade. Post-beach, Rua Brito Capelo is lined with seafood restaurants that accept dogs on outdoor terraces.

The first beach in Greater Porto to formally establish pet-friendly status, and the most equipped for dog owners. Non-concessioned and dog-friendly year-round. The beach has designated equipment for animal activities, waste bag dispensers, and accessible paths. Located in Vila Nova de Gaia (the south bank municipality), it requires a car or bus journey from central Porto. Less crowded than Matosinhos with a more local atmosphere.
