Piran is exceptionally walkable with a dog. The medieval old town is car-free and crossable in 15 minutes, Tartini Square and the seafront promenade are the daily living rooms, the Walls of Piran panoramic walk is a 15-minute climb above the town, and the coastal paths to Fiesa and Strunjan Landscape Park run within easy half-day reach. The main practical considerations are the strict leash rule across Strunjan and Sečovlje protected areas, the seasonal dog ban on the main Portorož resort beach (June to September, use Lucija dog beach instead), and the on-leash requirement on the Arriva regional bus (small dogs in a carrier free). Summer (July to August) is hot and busy, May, June, September, October are the best dog months.
