Dog Parks & Walks in Piran

The Walls of Piran rise directly above the old town on the hill behind Tartini Square, with sections dating to the 7th century and most of the visible fabric medieval. The walls are walkable along a panoramic ridge with views over the terracotta-roofed old town, the Bay of Piran, the Slovenian Istrian coast, and (on clear days) the Italian coastline towards Trieste. Leashed dogs are welcome on the wall walk and on the climb up from the Marciana Gate. About a 15-minute climb from Tartini Square, the views are the single best in Piran.

The coastal path that wraps around the Punta lighthouse at the northern tip of Piran old town and continues east along the rocky shoreline to the small Fiesa coves and freshwater lagoon (about 2 km one way). The route is partly cliff-top path, partly seafront promenade, with bench rests, sea swims at multiple informal entry points outside the marked bathing areas, and a finish at the Fiesa coves where leashed dogs can rest in the shade. One of the most pleasant short coastal dog walks on the Slovenian Riviera.

The Strunjan Krajinski park protects the highest flysch cliffs on the Adriatic (up to 80 m above the sea) and runs north from Piran through pine woods, salt pans and the Strunjan lagoon to the cliffs and the Mesečev zaliv (Moon Bay) cove below. The marked cliff path from Strunjan village runs along the ridge with sea views the whole way and admits leashed dogs. The cliff path connects with the Punta-Fiesa walk to make a long half-day from Piran. Dogs must be on a leash inside the park.
