Pet-Friendly Sights & Walks in Palamós

The active Port de Palamós, the 3rd Catalan fishing port by landed volume, with its working fleet of trawlers and small craft and the Llotja de Palamós fish auction (5 pm weekdays). The quay around the Plaça Sant Pere and the harbour breakwater are freely walkable on a leash year-round, with views over the fishing boats unloading the daily Gamba de Palamós PDO red prawn, anchovy, monkfish and the Cuina del Peix de Palamós Slow-Food programme catch. The interior of the Llotja auction hall is closed to dogs (food handling) but the quay outside is one of the village's defining open-air sights.

The free open-air ruins of the medieval Castell de Sant Esteve de Mar crowning the clifftop between La Fosca and Platja del Castell. The fortress site dates to the 11th-13th centuries and was an episcopal defensive position against medieval pirate raids; today an open-air heritage site with a short access trail from the La Fosca car park and a panoramic viewpoint over the cove, the Cap de Planes promontory and the fishing fleet at sea. Leashed dogs welcome up to the ruins year-round.

The medieval casc antic of Sant Joan de Palamós on the hilltop above the modern port, the original medieval village core that gave the municipality its name. Stone-stepped pedestrianised alleys around the Plaça Esglesia and the parish church, with views over the Bay of Palamós and the fishing fleet below. The Ajuntament tourism office on the Passeig del Mar hands out a free heritage walking map covering the casc antic, the harbour and the Cuina del Peix de Palamós Slow-Food restaurants. Leashed dogs welcome everywhere outdoors; church interior assistance-dog only.
